Welcome to my practice. I am a certified professional life coach with a master’s in psychology, but not a state-licensed psychotherapist or psychologist. In order to create clear expectations and structure in our relationship, here some basic guidelines of my practice and important information about some common issues that come up. Please read this document carefully, and note any questions you have.
About Coaching – Coaching with me is a relationship oriented toward your self-discovery, healing, and creating an appealing and fulfilling future, or working toward wholeheartedly accepting what is already the case. We will identify how you currently think, feel, and act and how you would ideally want to think, feel, and act, and create new external practices and goals that lead to what you want. Additionally, as current behavior and emotion is in many ways a byproduct of past experience, we will investigate your past and discover what holds you in places or has you experiencing life as you do.
These goals will be accomplished through meeting together in person or over the phone or video conferencing for 50, or 120, minute sessions where we will have a conversation guided by me, and, in some cases, experiential exercises or psychological, spiritual, or neuroscientific education. I was trained in the “Co-Active” coaching model from the Coaches Training Institute and other therapeutic forms from the fields of psychoanalysis, behavioral psychology, and somatic psychology, and I use all or some of these depending on your needs and desires. Our work is primarily an investigation into your inner world where I guide you to your own answers, but I will offer thoughts, feedback, and instruction or education when requested and/or appropriate.
Confidentiality – All information discussed in our sessions is confidential. This means I must have your permission before revealing any information about you to anyone, with certain exceptions, generally related to: legal obligations regarding maintaining the safety of yourself or others, or communication with other health professionals in times of absolute necessity.
Scheduling and Cancellation – As a baseline for all clients, I suggest meeting every two weeks, for as many sessions as feels useful. However, I work "as needed," meaning that you can meet with me at any frequency you'd like, even simply ad hoc.
Because I have very limited availability in which to schedule other clients, I require a minimum of 24 hours notice to cancel a scheduled appointment without charge. In order to help me planning, I appreciate as much advanced notice as possible, and I will likewise strive to give you ample notice of dates when I will be away at trainings or vacation.
Professional Fees and Payment – Because I feel it’s important for coaching services to be available to people of all socio-economic statuses, I work on an automatic sliding scale, or donation-based model. My goal is not to add stress to your life through my fees while still honoring the fact that this is my job, so I say to pay me whatever is the intersection of what honors the work for you but doesn't add stress to your life. My suggested rate for a 50-minute session is $150.
For in person sessions, you can pay me through cash, credit, check, or Venmo. For virtual sessions, you can request an invoice though PayPal, pay me to firstname.lastname@example.org on PayPal without an invoice, pay me through Venmo to @aaron-steinberg-6 or send me a check with address given upon request.
Communication Between Sessions – I will respond to text messages or emails in between sessions in an informal manner. I ask only that you respect my time with the quantity of communication. As a rule of thumb, if the exchange is brief (less than ~10 minutes) then I consider it a simple question or share, but if it goes longer than that I would consider it in terms of a sort-of smaller session, and therefore would appreciate pro-rated compensation in accordance with your current rate.
Risk and Release of Liability – You, the client, acknowledge that engaging in a coaching relationship contains a small amount of risk, and you agree to take full responsibility for all consequences of our relationship. You agree to release from all liability and promise not to sue me regarding any and all claims, including claims of negligence, resulting in any physical or psychological injury, illness, damages or economic or emotional loss you may suffer because of your participation in this coaching relationship.
Location of Services Provided and Release of Office Licensor Liability – In order to provide my private coaching services in person, I have arranged to rent out rooms from Sima Space in Oakland and San Francisco and Sima Space and Lindsey Antin in Berkeley. Sima Space provides independent practitioners with peaceful and accessible therapy rooms from which to conduct their private practice. Sima Space is not a clinic or health center. The nature of my relationship with Sima Space is limited to that of licensee and licensor. Sima Space is not liable for my professional practice or clientele. The nature of my relationship with Lindsey Antin is also limited to that of licensee and licensor. Lindsey Antin and her private practice is also not liable for my professional practice or clientele.
Emergencies – If at any time you experience what you believe is an emergency, please call or go to your nearest emergency department or dial 911 or your local psychological crisis hotline, which you can find by searching “Crisis Hotline” in your web browser.
